First, you may be asking, “What is a WDI?” This is how most pest control professionals, including our San Antonio pest control company, abbreviate the term “wood destroying insects.” Here are some indications you have these troubling pests in or around your home.
Termite Tubes: If you have termites, you may not have termite tubes – but if you have termite tubes, you definitely have termites. You see, termite tubes don’t usually show up until the problem is so bad that there is structural wall damage. If a termite infestation has gotten to the point that there is damage to your wall, the only way to fix it is to remove and replace parts of your drywall. So if there is any indication that you have termites, call us immediately. What other indication is there? Frass!
Frass: Many WDI’s, including termites and carpenter ants, leave behind frass, which is a combination of the wood shavings they eat and their fecal matter. The frass is not pleasant to look at in large clumps, so you will notice it if there is enough of it to indicate a serious problem with WDI’s. Remember: Any problem with WDI’s is a serious one, because they can breed very rapidly.
Bores: WDI’s like powderpost beetles are known for boring into wood; the bores are often tiny, but even that half-inch hole should be enough to alarm you and contact us for an inspection. It doesn’t take long for a few bores to become a few dozen, and then a few hundred. Most WDI’s work very quickly.
If you have any kind of wood destroying insect problem, contacting our San Antonio pest control company early on is key. We can perform an inspection and a treatment that will stop these awful pests before they cause serious damage to your home.
